How do you keep Your feet on the ground
-------------------------- Clear warm sky, strong sunny rays heated the tanning skin of a young woman. Sitting outside on a little bench by the pokemon lab, dark haired young woman sat. Her fingers gently holding a cool glass of sweet tea, behind her was a small house roughly one bedroom, but a home for this young woman. Her eyelashes lazily resting on her cheek, no signs of makeup on her pretty face, her lips a full natural color, her hair slowly moving in the soft breeze.
Her feet fitting snugly in brown sandals, toes painted a bright yellow tone, one single golden toe ring on her middle digit caught the sun's reflection. Curling her toes slightly she spread them apart just as the breeze blew threw, a smile grew on her face.
Beside her, nesting on the ground was a large monstrous Pidgeot. The pokemon almost twice the size of a normal and average pidgeot, but never the less love by her trainer. Her beak was busy preening her glossy mass of feathers, happily and with great care. In front of the young woman danced a lilligant, the grass pokemon's beat and style entirely her own, the grass type enjoyed the strong sun.
Slightly further than the grass type and more to the left dueled two pokemon. A rather rowdy female houndoom and somewhat of a wild donphan dueled for fun, a way to keep each other in check. To the side cheered on a male politoed, the sun wasn't very fun for his water loving self, however he every so often would give a burst of bubbles to the dancing grass-type for her to giggle and enjoy.
Alone nursing a recent pent of electric energy was a ampharos, it was dangerous during such dry times to use electric based attack, thus the pokemon wasn't allowed to do so unless in a special room, so as pay back to his trainer he was pouty, very much unlike himself.
The trainer was none other than Helena Grace, current Elite Four and Lab Assistant, her winning team in front of her. Happily she watched them the sun causing just a minor discomfort which was often undermined by such cool and refreshing sweet tea. Her eyes went from lazily looking at her team to closing and enjoying the wonderful day, no plan at all but plenty of room for an adventure. --------------------------

Renaldo York Grove Town >>| Current Party
Level 5 Renaldo slowly walked out of the pokemon lab, clutching the simple, plain pokeball in his hand tightly, afraid that some freak accident could somehow take it away. He had held pokeballs before, but for some strange reason, this one seemed heavier, and... important. Now that the pokemon inside, a Duskull, was his, this pokeball seemed irreplaceable, and nothing could tear it out of his hands. He finally had his first pokemon.
Having already been acquainted with Poena in the lab while he had filled out some paperwork, Renaldo was quite happy to have some time to really get to know his pokemon without getting sidetracked by signing his name over and over. He gingerly pressed the indented circle in the pokeball's center, squinting his eyes at the light that began pouring out. In front of him stood, or, rather, floated, the Duskull. She was squinting too, only her distress was from the bright sun overhead, evident as she shielded the tops of her eyes in discomfort.
"Maybe we should find some shade," Renaldo commented, scanning the surrounding area for some trees or the like. "Ah, those trees should work," he smiled as he began strolling towards the foliage. Poena muttered "Kull" in agreement, drifting behind her new partner carefully, still covering most of her eyes. Renaldo's focus on Poena caused him to barely even notice the group of pokemon nearby, just outside of one of the houses in town. Renaldo was quite startled, actually, as he drew nearer, sensing the Donphan and Houndoom play-fighting, and practically feeling the rumbles beneath his feet. His eyes finally rested upon the woman sitting calmly on a bench with them, watching a Lilligant dance before her.
"I'm just gonna borrow this shade for a minute, if you don't mind," Renaldo smiled politely, before turning back to his pokemon. He wasn't one to strike up new conversations in a typical situation, let alone now, when all he wanted to do was talk to the Duskull floating beside him. The woman seemed nice enough, anyway. He doubted she would mind his presence. >>| Words. 346>>| Tags. Helena>>| Notes. yeah IDK either xD

--------------------------
As time passed her eyes slowly started to drift closed, Pidgeot had finished her preening with a chirp she flapped up her wings and nested more comfortably. Her hearing tuned out her eyes closed she was drifting into a sleep, the shade from the tree growing tall and casting a larger shadow.
A voice broke through her almost peaceful nap, opening one eyes she located the sounds and opened both eyes. To her right was a man, she would call him a guy but something about him commanded the term man. He was handsome no doubt and something about him sparked a flirty fire within her belly and a sparkle in her eye.
Turning her attention to him she nodded to his question or like his statement. Pidgeot sensed her trainer's changed in emotion and chirped in annoyance, very unprofessional to frantiize with a new trainer. From the looks of it the duskull wasn't to happy about the bright sun and Helena felt sorry for the poor ghost type.
"Um, Sir. I'm the lab assistant and I'm sure that you know that your Duskull isn't to thrilled about the sun. Helena pointed out, surely the trainer knew that from the look on his pokemon's face.
"I'd recommend returning your pokemon to it's pokeball and not releasing him until night fall, just until him or her has grown stronger to withstand the sun. Helena said, doing her best to helpful.
Just as she finished talking, Houndoom trotted up to her and barked happily, finally winning a duel against the donphan whom had started to pout also. The dark/fire pokemon barked happily before her attention was caught by the duskull. Without permission the dark/fire type walked slowly up to the ghost type.
<"I'd tell you to make your trainer return you. It's not safe for a little one like you out here in such bright sun."> The female houndoom spoke to the pokemon in their own language.
Helena slightly pleased with the forwardness of her pokemon, patted her leg and houndoom returned happily, curling up to relax. "I can offer you some sweet tea while you wait for dusk. I'd hate for you little pokemon to get worn out." She spoke kindly, a little wink and a flirty smile. Something about him enticed her and that possibly wasn't a good thing but right now with the summer rolling she didn't care.

Renaldo York Grove Town >>| Current Party
Level 5 As much as Renaldo hated it, he knew that the woman on the bench was right. It’d probably be best to just leave Poena in her pokeball until dusk, which, to his dismay, seemed to be a ways away.
“I guess you’re right,” Renaldo admitted sadly, before turning to his Duskull. “What do you think? You want to wait until later to talk?” Renaldo asked, already knowing the answer. Poena nodded solemnly, a bit disappointed she couldn’t handle the sun. She waved knowingly to the Houndoom and the woman, shouting a “<Thanks!>” gratefully. She, too, was eager to meet her new partner, but now just wasn’t the time, despite her wishes.
Renaldo sighed as he hooked Poena’s pokeball back to his belt, looking up at the woman’s offer for tea. “Oh, sure. It beats walking alone in Route 1 in today’s heat, I guess,” Renaldo smiled politely, gingerly sidestepping the Houndoom and various other pokemon to take a seat on the bench. “I’m Renaldo, by the way,” he said quickly, realizing he had yet to introduce himself. He sat there for a moment, watching the sun in the sky move impossibly slow. It was like it was teasing him, daring him to see how long he could wait for dusk without going insane.
Trying to occupy his mind, Renaldo took out his notepad and pen, quickly scribbling something illegible down. He continued writing, pausing only for a moment to cross out a word or two and then continue recording his endless ideas again. He had a lot to think and write about considering he was independent for the first time, and it showed by how quickly he filled up the page.
He looked up for a second. Oh! The woman was still there. He fumbled with his pen as he tried to stick it back into his pocket as fast as possible, and, blushing, he looked back at her. He hadn’t really noticed her before, but now he did. She was quite pretty, and about his age- a welcome change from the stereotypical lab assistant that was usually a nerdy guy in a white lab coat. Not wanting to sit in silence and feeling a little guilty for ignoring her for the past few moments, Renaldo attempted to strike up a conversation, something he had never really been good at.
“So, there has to be some story on how you’ve become so powerful so young? Let’s be honest here, I just got Poena and I love her already, but even a flick from any of your pokemon and she’d be a goner,” he asked weakly, gesturing to the pokemon scattered about and then looking at the woman expectantly.

He agreed she was right which was a relief, considering most men didn't think she knew anything much to her annoyance. It was always fun to send donphan after them once they pissed her off well enough, even the brutish man ran like a little baby.
Her ears remained opened but her eyes return to her pokemon, she listened to him as he introduced himself after returning his pokemon. Slowly she turn to him adjusting to see was facing him but to her surprise he wasn't looking at her anymore. Instead his hand was busy scribbling something on a notepad, it was hard to read and sparked an interest.
"I'm Helena Gra-" She started to say but stopped, he didn't turn as she spoke and figured he was off in his own world. Without a care she turned back and looked out to her pokemon, the heat of the day was passing and dusk was on it's way, give it about three more hours and he would be on his way. Helena was thinking of taking a walk down route one just for fun, but hadn't made plan yet. She might even jump on Pidgeot and head out for some town she hadn't visited in a while, shrugging she heard him start to speak.
This time she didn't turn her head to acknowledge him instead she listened and made him wait for even the slightest. response. A smile crossed over her pretty face once more as he talked about him and his new pokemon Poena and how Helena's pokemon could easily wipe her out.
"My pokemon might be stronger than her right now, but you have to think these guys weren't just handed to me at their prime. No, instead I spent countless hours and many years perfecting my team and getting to the top. Of course any of them could whip your ass and hand it back to you on a silver platter, but I'm not an evil person. I wouldn't dare think of battling a pokemon that wasn't able to hold their own against any of my pokemon." Helena spoke calmly, however all the passion in her voice was strong. Finally after some time she turned to look at him and gave an award winning smile.
"Now that we have broke the ice, care to come inside for that tea? I'm not trying to con you are anything it's just I spend most of my days handing pokemon to teenagers and it's the first time I've meet someone close to my age, I won't give up a chance to talk about something important rather than what new shoes you want to buy" She said with a wink, without waiting for him she rose to her feet, all of her pokemon instinctively came to her. Pidgeot stood at her right and glared slightly at the new trainer, but softened when Helena gave an odd cooing noise. The other five pokemon all stood behind Helena with happy faces, only donphan had any hint of hostility but he didn't dare do anything.
"Now everyone, why don't you all have fun tonight. Donphan and Houndoom you two can go exploring as far as you like just don't go to far in case we need to leave. Politoed you and Lilligant if you want can go into the backyard and play in the pond or join Donphan and Houdoom, same rules apply. Pidgeot you can stay or go for a fly. Helena told them kindly, only slightly ignoring Renaldo. The pokemon all welcomed the freedom and went off, houndoom and donphan set off for the route one. Lilligant and Politoed set off for the backyard, Pidgeot let out a loud screech and took for the sky, a gust of wind blowing at Helena's dress.
"Well I guess we have the house to ourselves" She joked, reaching out for him, her hand stopping a good distance away. It was an invitation to go instead and enjoy a glass of tea, a chance for two adults to just talk.

Renaldo York Grove Town >>| Current Party
Level 5 Renaldo's smiled faded away at Helena's small speech about how she could easily destroy him. It was true, but the cool, collected way she said it had frightened him a little bit. His skin had begun to turn a bit pale even, and he felt his heart begin to race. He could already she was kind, but just seeing such strength in her was a bit shocking. She wasn't even looking at him and he was struck with fear. He sat there in awe, carefully listening to each word Helena said, until she finally moved to look at him, inviting him in for that cup of tea.
"Oh, I'm not worried about getting conned," Renaldo reassured her as he got up slowly to follow the woman. "It's just this day is not what I expected at all- I thought I would be out stuck in the middle of nowhere in Route 1 or something, probably lost, but instead here I am about to have a nice cup of tea with you. I'm actually quite happy about it, it was a bit too hot to leave straight away, and I can't stand the heat," Renaldo said thoughtfully. He was aware of Helena's pokemon around him, but wasn't worried about them- for whatever reason he knew she wouldn't let them do anything. And, really, at this point he had started to grow comfortable around them.
He watched as they disbanded, heading off in their own direction for some free time. It make Renaldo eager for the day when he had pokemon powerful enough to fend for themselves. Heck, he was looking forward to just getting his second pokemon. Really he was just longing for some companionship, which had been why he was so eager to interact with Poena. He almost didn't realize Helena's gesture towards him, beckoning to enter the house.
"Thank you for this, by the way. I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to be sleeping in tents and whatnot from now on. Some hospitality before I leave is nice, and I'll probably be wishing I was back her in a few days or so!" he complimented jokingly as he followed her down the small path to the front of the house. He smiled at her joke, replying "I suppose so. They were off pretty quickly," before heading inside, taking in the house's surroundings around him before settling himself in a chair.
"Have you always wanted to work with the lab, then? I still remember the day I knew I wanted to be a writer- I was 14, and stuck at one of my parent's boring parties. I had found an empty little book on the ground, and, since I had nothing else to do, I just wrote in it. Ever since then I've been addicted, as you probably figured out," Renaldo confessed, a bit embarrassed with how much he had shared.

He agreed to join her which brought her a slight flush to her face she lead him into the house. Once inside she felt a little embarrassed, the living room and kitchen wasn't super clean. In fact it was slightly messy, however it was breezy, having large windows almost always held open. Pidgeot was always out of her poke-ball and Helena after getting some money designed the house to give her flying type the best place.
Upon walking into her house one would notice the dinning room table to the right with four chairs to the right after first walking in would be the living room, only interior designing divided the two rooms.
The living room was on the small side and papers upon papers from the lab were scattered on the small coffee table. The couch was just the right size for three people. Only a small television was in the corner and from the looks of it only used for watching the evening news. On a bookshelf were piles of books, shoved in all kinds of nooks and crannies some even stored on top of the shelf and a few at the bottom, all the books were worn out and read often.
Helena smiled as Renaldo sat himself down at her dinning room table, Helena went into the kitchen which was only separated by a half-wall that also served as a bar.
He asked her a simple question as she returned with two glasses of tea and a small platter of cheese and crackers, placing them in front of them and sat down. Her attention sparked as she talked about his parents and their busy lives and him wanting to be a writer, she had a hunch about something but dismissed it for later.
"Well as I was training I always worked hard to learn all I could about pokemon. I enjoyed learning more and it was fun, I also like being on my game all the time, so I studied a lot. When I won the Elite Four title but lost to the champion I accepted it was my limit and looked for another job or something to pass the time with, the Elite Four isn't challenged often so I got a job here at the lab, found a house and kinda settled down." She explained and sipping her tea, reaching to munch on a cracker, avoiding the cheese.
"Are you a York?" She asked rather out of the blue after a little moment of silence. The way she spoke made it seem that she didn't care at all about his name or even if he had one. "I won't judge you if you are it's just I think I entered your name in the computer back at the lab." She said sweetly, looking out her window before turning her gaze to Renaldo with a smile.
"Aside from getting away from your family why come to Faeore? What are your plans?" Helena asked, ignoring now his family history.

Renaldo York Grove Town >>| Current Party
Level 5 Renaldo listened intently as Helena explained her travels as a trainer, leading up to her acceptance in the Elite Four and then eventually winding up in Grove Town. He was quite impressed with her, actually, and was a little embarrassed that his accomplishments seemed so minor in comparison. She’d already travelled the region and became an Elite Four member, while all he’s done was write a couple unfinished stories and happen to be the son of an upper class family.
He absently nibbled on some of the food she had laid out, not particularly hungry but not wanting to be rude, either. Despite his rebellious upbringing, he had picked up basic table manners and the like from his family, and it still showed on occasion.
He was surprised at the mention of his family’s name. “Oh! I guess you’ve caught me. Yeah, I am one of the infamous Yorks. Or in my case, the unknown York,” Renaldo admitted guiltily, blushing again. “I don’t know, I guess I’m just not cut out for the headlines that my family is always in. I just needed to find my own way, really. My family members are good people and all, their life just isn’t for me.” He shrugged, taking another cracker and spreading some cheese from the plate in front of him.
“As for plans? I’m not sure. To be honest, my plan was just to come here to Faeore. I don’t really know what I want to do, now. I’ll keep writing, that I know for sure,” he said with a weak smile. “And I guess now that I have some pokemon, I’d like to train them up a bit, probably breed them, eventually. I haven’t really thought about it all that much…” Renaldo trailed off, looking down at the table.
“I guess I must seem pretty unprepared, huh? Now that I think about it, I’m not sure what I was planning to do! I just assumed that once I got here everything would just work out, and I’d live happily ever after,” he rambled, more to himself than anything. What would he do? There was always the gym challenge, but he didn’t really care for battling. Contests seemed more likely, but not all that exciting to him, either. He’d just stick to writing and breeding, probably, but who knows? He had a lot of options, and he’d want to try them out a little bit, at least.

How do you keep Your feet on the ground
-------------------------- k A playful smirk cover Helena's face as she watched him, being the gentlemen and being polite. If she didn't already have a feel he didn't enjoy his life back home she would have flirtatiously mocked him but she held herself back until they became better friends.
Helena listened to him and nodded at the correct places, as he went on talking about his undeclared plans. Helena thought back to her history and was unable to relate. All her life she was pushing herself to be the best so naturally she was going to pursue a goal and do everything in her power to achieve it.
Glancing down the table to the wood she relaxed her fingers to rum them in the groves of the table, Renaldo had finished talking and a long welcomed silence covered the two, her thoughts on other things.
Helena had just realized that she had over came her biggest dream and now she didn't have one anymore. Something about it was unsettling but it wasn't the time or place to dwell on it, instead she turned the talk to something Renaldo could relate to, her own personal feelings for another day.
"Pokemon Breeder eh? I've always wanted to breed a few of my pokemon to see what I would get possibly challenge the league over again with the offspring of my team. If you ever get your breeder program going, call me up I'll be your first costumer granted you breeder other people's pokemon." She said smoothly, throwing in a promise for another meeting, a possibility of a friendship wasn't leaving her grasp easily.
Glancing out side she took noticed to the sun, it had nearly an hour two go before being dusk and safe for Renaldo to travel. A ping in her stomach told her that she didn't want him to leave, the conversation they were having was fun she hadn't talked to anyone older than nineteen in so long.
"So you battle or coordinate?" She asked, knowing something of the contest circuit her older brother being apart of it in the Hoenn Region.

Renaldo York Grove Town >>| Current Party
Level 5 In the silence following his little speech, Renaldo awkward munched on another cracker, glancing around the room, interested in the books Helena had laying around. Research, mostly, but Renaldo recognized a few of his favorite authors scattered about. He loved to write, of course, but reading what others poured into books was a close second to him. They had, of course, inspired his writing. But they had also inspired him- the stories of someone setting out on their own, having a fantastic adventure, and finding love were what he grew to want as well.
"I'm definitely going to take you up on your offer," Renaldo responded to her. He was thankful for Helena's offer for breeding her pokemon, glad to know he wouldn't be completely without customers. Even if he didn't want to live the uber rich and prosperous life of his family, he still wanted to be successful. But then again, nobody really strives to become poor, really.
He was also pretty happy with the fact that he had just made his first friend in Faeore. That had actually been one of his countless worries upon travelling to the region. Before, he had always been introduced thanks to his family, so people already knew who he was. He had never really been given the chance to meet someone on his own, and, in the rare chance, he barely had the time to meet them, let alone befriend them. Renaldo was pretty relieved that he’d been doing an okay job of making friends on his own, so far, and he was grateful that is was someone kind like Helena.
“To be honest, I think I’m going to go with battling, mostly. I’ll probably dabble in contests though, too,” Renaldo answered Helena’s second question. “I’ve never done either, but just the idea of showing off and stuff doesn’t appeal to me as much,” he continued. “Then again, I’ve never actually done either so I can’t say for sure!” he pointed out, laughing. Here he was, talking about so many serious topics regarding pokemon and his life, when really he’d barely done anything. It struck him as funny, for some strange reason.
Silently chastising himself before regaining his composure, he politely asked, “What about you? Obviously more of a trainer than a coordinator, but have you ever tried contests?”

How do you keep Your feet on the ground
-------------------------- Helena kept herself tuned into what he was saying a little shock crossed over her face as he mentioned that he had never done anything. This stuck her as odd, ever since she was little Helena had been making a name for herself. The first of her siblings to study battle formations, the second to leave on a journey and the first that she knew of to achieve such a title. However ever since she could walk Helena had been very ambitious in order to gain her parent's love, when in fact she was always loved but it was hard to show it equally to each child.
Helena fallowed his eyes to her pile of books for a moment she had a splendid idea. Renaldo asked her if she'd ever take part in contest, for a moment she thought about it, calculating each pokemon quickly in her head. She didn't answer him right away instead she rose to her feet and went to her bookshelf. Careful to pull her dress up under her bottom she squatted down to look at the older book toward the bottom of the shelf. Picking up three books she returned to the table and placed them in the middle, near the crackers.
" I had caught Lilligant for contest but I haven't trained her at all, someone I knew said that Donphon had promise but I haven't set my mind to it yet." She finally answered his question, taking one book in hand to looked it before checking the spine for any damages or loose pages. She did it for the remaining two as well.
"I want you to take these books. One is a new trainer's guide to pokemon training. I used it when I was younger I even wrote a little on the sides. The second is a book about Faeore Region. That will diffidently help you out. I even wrote in that one of people I knew and befriend while I traveled. If you tell those people I listed about knowing me I'm sure they would help you. As for the last book it's just a story book from a writer in the Kanto Region. Every night before I went to bed I read some to my pokemon. It brought us closer and I"m hope it will do the same for you and Poena." Helena spoke rapidly

Level 5 Renaldo watched Helena curiously, as she walked over to the books whose titles he had been reading. She carefully picked up one, two, three books while she talked about the contests she had yet to really participate in. He was surprised when she returned to their table, setting down the pile of books in front of him: the battling guide, the region guide, and the storybook.
“Wow, thank you so much! This is really thoughtful,” he smiled, flipping through the Faeore region guidebook intently. He had read a little bit about Faeore before arriving, but this book definitely had a lot of stuff he didn’t know yet. He looked longingly at the chapter listing, eager to get a chance to read it. As for the battling book, he really didn’t know how much he knew. All his knowledge on battling came from what he had picked up at the fancy dinners his parents had hosted. “This last book our butler used to read to me," he said wistfully, picking up the book of stories. “I was so sad to have to leave it behind. I’ll be sure to keep this safe,” he said seriously, looking back up at Helena.
His eyes now had a very solemn expression as he remembered the good memories he had back home. It definitely wasn’t perfect there, but it was good. His parents did love him, and he knew that when he left, but they just didn’t understand why he wanted to make his own way.
He looked out the window calmly, still reminiscing in the past. He took in the beautiful sunset that was before him. A perfect end to a perfect day. He sighed happily. “Oh! The sun’s already setting,” he remarked bittersweetly. “Time sure went by fast!” he exclaimed. The excitement of starting his journey filled him again, but now there was a twinge of sadness, too, because it meant he needed to leave Helena.
Of course he hadn’t been planning on living in the house for the rest of his life or anything like that, but having to leave would be disappointing. “I wish I had something to give you in return for the books, and crackers,” he lamented, standing up and placing them gently into his backpack. “Well, I guess I should go, huh? Thank you so much for your hospitality, hopefully one day I’ll be able to return the favor!” Thanking her over and over, Renaldo took one last cracker and started heading towards the door.
