Pain throws your heart to the ground, love turns the whole thing around
Alright. Let me see it one more time.
Elysia pressed her palms together, listening to her little abra yawn. It worried her, how tired he seemed, but the little psychic type had assured her that he could stand being awake for at least a few hours. It was in an Abra’s nature to sleep for at least eighteen to twenty hours in a day in a deep meditative sleep, in an inner-struggle to constantly develop their psychic powers... Yet, she felt unnerved by the thought he might have not slept enough for the competition.
Okay... Reinhardt said, his voice a whisper in her mind, Once more.
He disappeared from her vision, in a spinning blur. She dug her heels into the soft earth under foot, and then walked across the ground, standing somewhere new. In another blur, she saw him again, appearing in the air, twirling down slowly-landing softly in front of her feet-still spinning slightly.
She clapped slightly as he went through their impromptu routine, pleased that he was able to remember each of the steps they’d been going over, and that he had been able to put them all together. “Brahhh.... brahh...” <Are... all contests like this?>
“This is always what the first round it likely to be... they hand out the guidelines, go over the rules, and give competitors a short period of time to practice... or at least go over their plans with their pokemon...” Elysia mumbled quietly, glancing towards the others that seems to be practicing. They were focused on their own routines thankfully.
It hadn’t been exactly as she’d imagined, as there were a lot less children practicing than she had though there would of been. Sure, there were a few children under the age of twelve dotted around the practice grounds playing around with their pokemon... but there were also people around twenty or fifteen going over routines with serious looks upon their faces. “...” She picked Reinhardt up and dusted his armor off. They needed to go get dressed... before the stage manager came to round them up for the show.
Dressed? Reinhardt inquired, picking up on the thought, ... both of us?
Elysia gave a tiny smile, but said nothing more. She carried him off, towards one of the town’s only cafes. They tiptoed their way to the restrooms... and Elysia went to work.
------------------------------------------------
Reinhardt tugged at his little red bow-tie with both of his paws, awaiting for his trainer in front of the cafe. She had ushered him out of the ladies room after she had finished tying his accessory on, telling him that she would be ready soon. A tap on his shoulder made him turn, to take in the sight of his trainer in actual colors.
Elysia twirled for a moment, before giving Reinhardt a little bow. “Well?” She murmured, as she dusted a bit of dirt off her dress. Reinhardt blinked his eyes, and floated backwards to better inspect his trainer’s new outfit.
Reinhardt did his best to keep his thoughts to himself, before they escaped him, As stunning as a lighting bolt... Why must you wear so much black...? Ah, here I can see you-far brighter and bolder than beauty strives to be. This line of thought earned him a blush, though it hid behind Elysia’s thin coat of make-up.
“Let’s hurry...” She muttered, straightening his bow-tie, If we’re lucky, we’ll show up right on time. The abra nodded, flustered for a moment, and the two began to run towards the area where all the contestants were supposed to meet before the show.
They snuck in the back of a large group, and listened quietly. “Five minutes ‘til curtains people! Introductions in ten, first performer in twelve!” Elysia smiled at her little abra, giving him a thumbs up. He nodded, a twinkle in his eyes. Right on time.
“Remember, the pokemon you entered with, is the pokemon you stick with! Finish up practicing those of you not up first! First up! Candice Polsninka and Redbeard! Green Flair and Alice, you’re in the wings...”
Elysia let out a soft breath of air, and closed her eyes.
Soon, name after name, she heard the ring of the familiar.
“Elysia and Reinhardt! You’re in the wings. Get over here to be miked.”
She opened her eyes and stood, taking firm and steady steps towards the raised wooden platform above the stage, where the judges sat, and she would stand. Someone scurried over with an ear piece and a tiny clip on microphone while she stared Reinhardt down with fire in her eyes. With a nervous sigh, she kissed her abra on the cheek, a bold voice escaping her mind.
Knock their socks off, Reinhardt. Make me proud.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
“A newcomer to the realm of coordination... having announced her journey into this brave new frontier just two weeks ago, top model and beloved beauty, please welcome... Elysia Aether!”
Elysia was a bold creature upon the stage, a soft smile played upon her lips as she walked upon it. She squared herself away in the center of the stage, curtsying to the crowd... which wasn’t too bad of a turn out-she could even see a bit of media coverage in the back. Though, she noted, it was the local news, some press was better than none. As the smattering of applause faded away, she spoke softly, “Thank you for your warm welcome... Today, many newcomers are coming to the stage... and I pray you all enjoy our performances, here and perhaps to come! Let me introduce my own partner, and let the show continue...”
With that, she quieted, and then after a moment called, “Reinhardt~ Show em' what you got.”
The Abra appeared in a flash of teleportation, twirling and spinning downwards, towards the star-shaped arena. He landed a few feet away from the ground, still twirling in place in the middle of the arena, kicking up a bit of dust from his wild twirling. After a moment, he stopped spinning, and brought his arms to his bow-tie.
Reinhardt tugged at his bow-tie, the little thing snapping loudly when he let it go. Several flat glowing squares appeared around him, surrounding him once he did so. They spun about his form, reflecting his image in pinks, blues, and purples, creating a tight knit barrier around him. He bowed with one paw to his belly, a smile on his face-and let each passing barrier slowly capture his image...
It looked as if he were frozen in time, not moving an inch. That was the trick to his three-walled barrier, while it spun about showing off him bowing to the crowd, he was free to start working on his next move. Reinhardt bawled one of his hands up in a fist, and concentrated hard.
He squinted his eyes, blinked a few times, and thought hard.
Being stuck in a freezer... being an ice-type... being caught in a blizzard..
After a long twenty-seconds had passed, and he felt as if the audience would either be on the edge of their seats or confused about why he was just bobbing up and down while bowing... he let his barrier have it.
The first punch didn’t break it entirely, freezing the wall more so than it had shattered it... so he pulled back again, and with a mighty shout, “Abrahhhhh!” He let his other arm fly. He heard surprised gasps and excited chatter ring through the audience... and he tried not to smile to widely.
Ice Punch had pulled through, shattering the barrier Reinhardt had constructed around him, each little shattered piece slowly fluttering to the ground like they had been chilled to a brittle breaking point.
They hadn’t really talked about what to do with the mirror like shards of purple, blue, and pink, he and Elysia... She had simply told him to do something with them image-wise. To form something interesting and sparkling on the ground with them...
So, in a stroke of brilliance, he let the pieces fall, revealing his newest pose, him floating upside down and a wink. The shards of psychic energy filled the star-shaped arena rather nicely, a sparkling mosaic for the sun to catch and reflect. The remains of the barrier wouldn’t last long, Reinhardt knew...
So he decided to finish up.
Still upside down, he convinced the pieces of the broken barrier to float upwards, and let his eyes glow softly. In an instant, the abra vanished with a twirl, teleporting the psychic remainders away with him.
He reappeared on the stage, floating atop Elysia’s hat. He spun slightly, letting the sparkles he had taken with him rain on the stage, the pieces vanishing before they could hit the ground in sparks and flashes. Elysia took a moment, before she bowed, watching little Reinhardt do the same.
She and her abra began to leave, and she found herself pulling him into her arms, rather tightly. A voice followed her, the announcer declaring her exit, “That was, once again, the fabulous Elysia and Reinhardt! Wasn’t that something folks?”
The crowd seemed enthused, clapping and cheering and letting out little whistles...
From behind the stage it was cheering... but...
But... the question was... Was it enough to win her and Reinhardt first billing? Or was there another performer to give due credit for their marvelous performance?
She would have to see... she would just have to see.
She understood the business well enough after all, and competition was a part of it that she understood even more so. She'd keep her eyes peeled for anyone that looked... too promising.
Fear is a friend who's misunderstood but I know the heart of life is good
note ;; ... anndddd finished. Whew.

Sun rays pouring down on the magnificently prepared Contest stage; dust particles practically invisible to the naked eye dancing among the sun rays; a soft breeze brushing past all of the inhabitants of the stands; loud cheers from the excited Contest fans as they waited anxiously for the event to begin - yes, this was a great day for another Contest to be held in the Faeore Region after such a while! It was Mrs. Richard's doing - a renowned Contest official who decided to ring in the summer season for the Faeore Region Coordinators by hosting a Contest during her Summer Festival. Soon enough, the Faeore Contest MC made their way to the middle of the star-formed stage, and commenced their own and the judges' introductions - officially inducting the start of the Faeore Summer Contest.
This wasn't just a special event because of the anxious and long wait for another Region Contest, but to the young man in the Coordinator Waiting Room watching the event from a big screen monitor, it was a lot more riding on this because this was his first Contest debut. It wasn't that long ago that Xander found his interest in Contests, and began training with his partners for the events, so there was a lot riding on this first Contest. It was his make-or-break today for him and his companions to see if they really had what it took to be on the Stage, and not watching from the TV or the stands. The young Gym Leader was already getting unnecessary attention from the Waiting Room - clearly people didn't expect to see such a person with them in the room, but with his cool, calm and collected attitude, Xander brushed off the stares and the whispers. After seeing Sinnoh's own Fantina doing what he himself was attempting (and successfully at that), why should it be such a shock? "Pftt...." he scoffed under his breath. He already expected this, so there was no surprise. What was more important was getting through this day. After all, this Contest was just part of a special Summer Festival as opposed to an official Contest Hall event. Xander was nervous, but he refused to show it... or to let his Pokemon feel it.
Out of his usual wear (and comfort zone at that), Xander sported his Coordinator wardrobe; a sky blue jacket with yellow tassels and buckles at the front which replaced the buttons to give off that olden-time look. The top of his white vest could barely be seen by his chest being covered by the jacket. This was complimented by his dark blue jeans and shoes - honestly, he knew that he imitated another well-known Gym Leader of the Pokemon World, but he could care less if people thought of it as mimicry - to him, and the few people who've seen the preview, it was a form of respect for that person, and plus it coordinated well with his Pokemon choice for the Contest. He held his partner's Pokeball in his hands, attaching the right seals and waiting anxiously for his turn. He took in slow, easy breaths to ease his anticipation; closing his eyes and thinking positively: "We're gonna do this - let's have fun out there...." A small smile was let loose from Xander as he gave a small nod to his partner waiting herself in her capsule. He watched with intensity as the first set of Coordinators went up – some looked young and just as new to the Contest scene as he was; others looked experienced with just as professional looking partners. However, he just watched on interestingly at their performances – it wasn’t going to make him nervous or concerned about winning. No sooner had he thought about if his finishing move was tailored enough that his name burst out through the Room's speakers to indicate his procession to the Stage. One thing he could tell he'd hate was the sudden, unprepared announcement of his turn. Xander got up from his seat, and bravely ran out of the Room with his Pokeball gripped firmly..
The MC was the next to ring out Xander's name, and that was his signal to run out of the curtained Coordinator entrance/exit; appearing for the crowd as a loud burst of cheers and screams rang out in his ears. That was his motivation to do this; "All right then - Chinchou, give 'em your all!" Xander's normal battle cry was no different for this Contest from his normal Gym battles - the same principle applied.. The Pokeball released a bright flash of light, but this time was different. As the Pokeball released, a bright white light released while being encapsulated by large, blue bubbles. The Pokeball returned to Xander, but the streaming light of bubbles shot into the air like a comet! - hurtling down to the dead middle of the star-shaped stage, but before it crash landed, the light disappeared. Now, a small blue Pokemon was in the middle of the jet of bubbles as it somersaulted and span around mid-air towards the stage. Xander's treasured Chinchou gracefully completed her spins and flips as she landed on her flippers as the cascading blue bubbles from the Pokemon Seals showered down on her. The bubbles landed all around the Angler Pokemon as they sparkled slightly from the direct sunlight. <"I'm readyyyy!"> the Pokemon cried out to the excited crowd.
"Chinchou, Thunderbolt please." Chinchou cried out in agreement, and as her anglers glowed a brilliant, bright gold, another cry from her resulted in an equally brilliant Electric attack! The sparks brightened and electrified the stage; the glowing bubbles eventually popped releasing shimmers of glowing, small stars around Chinchou. During the attack, Chinchou’s blue body glowed along with its anglers – showing off its prowess as a formidable Electric Pokemon. After completion, Chinchou appeared to be happy at what it did, not to mention the resulting cries of excitement from its audience. Xander smiled from his position at the fun his partner was having - that just made him appreciate her, and made him feel at ease now.
"Chinchou, get ready...." Xander and Chinchou had been working on their combinations with passion and effort to prepare for this day, so both of them knew what the signals were at Xander's words. At the sound of those specific words, Chinchou suddenly jumped up, did a couple flips mid-air and landed back; however, its now glowing anglers were on the soft dirt as it posed off upside down. "Chouuuuuuuu!" she exclaimed as one angler lifted off the ground, and she propped on one angler! However, she regained her two angler position after just about seven seconds! - that was the only thing that the two of them couldn't maintain in practice, but Xander wasn't done - he had to make up for that if the judges thought negatively of it. "Signal Beam!" At the slight bending of her anglers, Chinchou forced herself mid-air once more, but upon her aerial move, a colourful orb of light formed between her anglers; not like the golden electrical glow as before but more colours - the orb of light soon bursted out in a jagged beam which struck the stage floor of soft dirt. The beam from Chinchou reached a target which only propelled the Pokemon in mid-air continuously as it released more and more beams from its orb of light. She kept it up as though she was making something in the dirt - of course, that was the aim! Xander looked on as his partner effortlessly worked on making something from its Signal Beam just as she did from all those practice hours. It didn't take very long before Chinchou slowly landed back on its feet, or well flippers, after accomplishing its mid-air somersaults and flips. She posed off cutely with her fins and anglers out-stretched while she stood in the middle of her artwork - a large, and cute depiction of the very sun that shone down on the Contest smack dab in the middle of the star-shaped stage!
Xander was having just as much fun as Chinchou as he proudly observed her work. Her artwork was just as imaginative and interesting as the times before. The loud cheers, and the faces on everyone and the judges were the ecstasy fueling the Coordinator. However, he didn't pay that much mind - he and Chinchou had to stay synced. "Chinchou, that was great! Let's say we give them a finishing blow - dazzle 'em with Thunder Wave!" As modest as Chinchou was, she didn't let that stop her from doing her best. She always thanked her Trainer for bringing that out in her; it was one thing to be modest - at least it wasn't cocky; she didn't let the cheers and applause get to her. She happily let out a cry of acknowledgement as she breathed in and settled herself. As she did this, her anglers began to slowly glow a bright yellow. The thing about the duo's finishing move was that it was planned precisely. Xander figured out how to use Chinchou's Volt Absorb to their advantage. Thanks to that last Thunderbolt, Chinchou made sure to center the attack around itself so as to demonstrate its power and beauty. It was thanks to her Ability that the move didn't affect her that much; the electric move was absorbed to raise her own power and stamina; now she was ready to release that all in once in her last Electric move. Chinchou let out a thrilling battle cry as her glowing anglers finally let loose their stored power - all around Chinchou appeared a seemingly endless veil of beautiful, golden electrical sparks. The enhanced Thunder Wave soon started to expand further from Chinchou to engulf most of the star stage. The move looked just as beautiful as it did powerful as the surging sound of the current echoed out. Lights soon appeared around Chinchou. Just as dust particles danced around in the sun shine, the lights slowly danced all around Chinchou and its bright glowing anglers as well as around the stage and spreading out to the crowds. The tiny sparks were not like last time; these sparks were now in forms of tiny golden orbs like super-mini suns. What Chinchou recreated was the very image of dust particles dancing in sunlight; only visible to the naked eye! Xander watched the audience’s amazement at the dazzling display, yet he waited patiently though until the two’s surprise kicked in ...
Soon enough, Xander watched it happening. As Chinchou's charged up attack continued to display, the sun pattern in the dirt soon started to glow faintly as well. What Xander and Chinchou worked on was charging up their Thunder Wave to the point where even the design in the dirt would be affected. Whether it was the dust particles being more defined through the electricity among the dirt pattern, or whatever science was happening, Xander just picked up on the result as he practised with Chinchou. However, the sun pattern was just faintly glowing; nothing too bright or that defined, but thanks to the small orbs of golden light, it just looked as if a sun was on the ground shining its own light with the dancing lights encompassing it. Upon completion, its anglers stopped glowing, but the stage continued to reveal small glowing sparks as Chinchou gave one last enthusiastic and excited pose (post a couple of small breathers in and out), followed by a bow. Xander might have been a Coordinator that day, but his passion for Electric Pokemon was no different when he is a Gym Leader, and he was glad to showcase that side of him for the Contest. And that was it...
The crowd exploded in applause and cheers that practically deafened Xander. That didn't matter to him though as his blue eyes were to Chinchou waddling over; its modest attitude didn't allow it to jump into Xander's arms. So Xander showed her his gratitude as he kneeled down and gave her one lasting hug. She performed brilliantly for a huge crowd given her personality and he couldn't be prouder and happier for her. Sure, he had his doubts about using her for their first Contest, but that just made himself feel worse about those doubts and happier for her. She really was a Contender – the two pushed each other as they always did in their battles. She did it... he did it - their first Contest! "Chinn!! Chou!!!" <"Thank you! Thanks!"> The excited Angler Pokemon waved to the crowds from Xander’s arm where she felt more comfortable to be exclaiming. "Thank you! .... Thanks everyone!" even the moody Gym Leader exclaimed. On that stage, he felt just as thrilled as a heated Gym Battle. You couldn't top feelings like that so easily. And with that, and awaiting the judges' decisions to look forward, this time they smoothly left the Contest Arena with smiles on their faces, satisfaction in their hearts, and nervousness on their minds! "So, these are Contests..... easy, huh Chinchou?" Xander joked as they headed back to the Waiting Room. Chinchou just sighed and shook her head at her Trainer, followed by a weak smile!

All the coordinators presented themselves and their pokemon well, a great turn out for such a small town. An old woman roughly 60 years old walked out with her head held high beside her walked a handsome Empoleon. She held a microphone and turned to the crowd, whom all cheered and clapped for the sponsor of the contest.
"We are proud of the coordinators that came out today, they should good skill for our summer festival. " She spoke, her voice surprisingly strong and commanding. She wasn't a weak woman in fact she had an aura that spoke of history and expected respect from even the youngest of child.
"With all their efforts I'm proud to award the winners of first and second place. Now the judges and I had a hard time determining the winner and it came down to their pokemon's display in the air or ground. Now please step forward Xander!"
She called out (warning little powerplay) the man stepped forward, his pokemon close by. Beckoning her own pokemon to her side he presented her a box and she in turn presented it to Xander.
"Your display as not only a gym leader buy as a coordinator today was fantastic, but we felt that you perhaps treated it as battle." She spoke only to him and she kept his attention well.
"You have promise and I know, you can make it far here and I don't wish to discourage you but instead of dazzling just the judges dazzle yourself. I suggest as a once great coordinator that you choose and perfect moves that not only are battle moves but also ones show a different kind of strength. With that said Xander, I granted you second place." Mrs. Richard said kindly, presenting him with the ribbon and prize money. The levels awarding to his pokemon via the rare candies in the box.
The crowd roared with cheer for his placing as well as knowing the winner. Mrs. Richard took the other box and stepped toward the girl, whom stepped forward.
"You may have already guest you have won. You and your pokemon are a good team and I can see the loyalty in him, I recommend you take the time to possibly get to know him better. I had a feeling he wanted to show you more, however with that you have won."
Mrs.Richard handed her the reward and turned, waving good bye to the crowd before heading off the stage, her pokemon right behind her.
((You can simply use the sprites I posted for the ribbons. I'll reward you once I post. Good Job))
